i really loved the dia: beacon. i found the entire building to be fascinating with its factory like feel and its abundance of artists i recognized. it was exciting to walk into a gallery and know of every artist in it. "the privet" by john chamberlain really caught my attention. he had a few metal works at the dia: beacon but this one really caught my eye. the metal had a soft look to it that made you want to feel it. the colors and patterns on the peices of scrap put it on a new aesthetic plain changing the metal into pure color and shape.
my other favorite artist at the dia: beacon was richard serra. i have studied him in other classes and have been intrigued by his work in print, but these are to be experienced not just read about. his work gives off so many vibes, it is exciting, playful, interactive, demeaning, rough, dizzying, unsettling, and comforting. the combination of feelings experienced through his pieces can be described but can not be understood unless experienced.
