Cui Xiuwen's work is very striking. it gives off a very pure and serene sense to it. you can feel her passion for feminism through her work. She expresses pregnancy especially in young women and teens. her subjects seem very young and vulnerable. Angle No. 13 was my favorite of her Angels Series. i love the pure vibrant sky over the not so pure city skyline. i also like the way the subject looks uncomfortably comfortable. i think Cui Xiuwen's work is a successful expression for her feminism and outlook on womanhood. the female portrayal in her work is strong but has a type of peace to it.

Cindy Sherman's work is very strong in the sense of feminism. her work is very dramatic and gives off less of a peacefulness than that of Cui Xiuwen. i like the fact that it seems more raw but careful at the same time. her portrayal of women is harsher and leans heavily toward sex and sexuality. i feel a sense of brokenness when i look at her work it may be the mediums she uses or the color schemes but it seems erratic and dark. most of her work makes you want to keep looking to see the next scene. her photographs are like frames of a movie leave you hanging to make your own scene play in your head. Sherman's work is very successful when it comes to feminism and also when it comes to giving off an emotional connotation.

  •    Frida Kahlo is one of the most famous feministic artists. she did numerous self portaits all of which depicted her broadly with a unibrow and serious features. i feel her work is not very easy to understand unless you know her background and era. when you take these things into consideration you can see that her works were direct representations to her experiences, idea, and thoughts. Las Dos Fridas is my favorite piece of hers. it gives off the feeling of gloom right away. whether or not the viewer knows her background its obvious that she is torn between two. on the left there is a self portrait in dressy proper clothes and on the right there she is in petty workers clothes. i think all women can relate to this obvious split of person. they are connected by a vein and hold hands. Kahlo's work is definitely strong and successful it represents a prime example of feminism and self judgement.
all three of these artists have something in common, passion, they all show great emotion and passion in there works. they may represent the female gender in very different ways but they all execute their strong feelings and expressions in a very successful way.
